 Dutch Auction Ltd What is Dutch AuctionThe Dutch auction originates, as you would imagine, from Holland, in the 17 th century and takes its name from the famous Tulip auctions held at this time. A seller who has an item they wish to auction would arrange a meeting with any prospective buyers. The buyers would then take a seat around a table and place a candle in the middle. The candle would be marked with prices in descending order from the top downwards. Once the candle was lit the buyers would wait until the candle burnt down to a price they were prepared to pay and snuff it out. The first person to snuff out the candle would win the auction.This is the idea behind our site and explains why you will see a candle gradually burning down in our auction pages.
